What Are the High Holidays?
The two-day holiday of Rosh Hashanah is the head of the Jewish year, the time when G‑d reinvests Himself in creation as we crown Him king of the universe through prayer, shofar blasts, and celebration. A week later, the High Holidays reach their crescendo with Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement). Like angels, we neither eat nor drink for 25 hours. Dressed in white, we pray in the synagogue—united as one people, children of One Father.
It's a complicated world, growing more complicated especially for Jews. So, it's not surprising that this year, many of us are feeling a wide mix of emotions. Not many of them positive.
Given that, you might be surprised to learn that at Chabad our outlook on the future is bright. How's that? Fair question.
We'll take great strides to ensure your High Holidays experience leaves you feeling inspired, empowered, hopeful, and proud. In a word—different.
It doesn't matter what your beliefs are. It doesn't matter how often you've stepped foot in a synagogue—or even if never at all.
You’ll have great seats. No matter where you stand.
High Holiday Charity
The sages repeatedly encouraged the practice of giving as much charity as possible.
They explained that through showing compassion kindness to those in need, G-d will in turn answer our prayers with compassion and kindness, regardless if we deserve it from our actions alone. As we read in the machzor "“Repentance, prayer, and charity take away the severity of the decree”.
Please consider partnering with us by giving charity to support Chabad of Utah County and our High Holiday programming.
